The Islamic Weekend School (IWS) is operated by The Center for Islamic Education and provides educational programs that integrate Religion, Quran, and Arabic studies in a structured classroom environment. Based out of Westland Middle School in Bethesda, MD 5511 Massachusetts Avenue MD 20816, the School is geographically convenient to interested individuals living in Maryland, Northern Virginia, and Washington, D.C. The School offers a Children/Youth Education Program, and an Adult Education Program.
The Children/Youth Program is designed to teach students the ethics and fundamentals of Islam, Quranic recitation, and the Arabic language. The purpose of teaching Arabic is to deepen the student's ability to read and understand the Quran. The School also offers an Adult Education Program, focused on widening the level of understanding of the religion of Islam and its morals and views relative to personal and cultural issues facing individuals, the community, Muslims in the United States, and the Umma at large.
Administration / Faculty
The school is located at Westland Middle School in Bethesda,(5511 Mass Avenue) MD 20816.
The School is presently operated by a multicultural body of volunteer parents, who perform the faculty and administration functions. General instruction is given in English (and Arabic, as required) by a highly motivated team of young Muslims, some of which are graduates of this same program several years earlier. As part of the School's continuous effort to better serve Muslims, this administrative body has also recently renovated the school's educational programs.
